The "coupe SUV" concept, which first appeared in the luxury crossover market during the 2000s, has gained popularity in the electric vehicle (EV) space. Its sleek, sloping roofline not only adds to the design appeal but also improves aerodynamics, potentially boosting range efficiency. Earlier this year, Audi introduced the Q6 e-tron, a compact electric crossover. Since Audi already offers fastback versions of its smaller Q4 e-tron and larger Q8 e-tron, it's no surprise they've now unveiled the Q6 e-tron Sportback, set to arrive in the U.S. next year.

Sleek Q6 and SQ6 Variants
The changes in the Q6 e-tron Sportback are primarily above the shoulder line. The redesigned roof is 1.4 inches lower, arching down towards the rear of the SUV and meeting a subtle lip spoiler with an integrated brake light. The rear remains largely unchanged from the regular Q6 e-tron, retaining the full-width light bar and robust rear bumper. Inside, the Sportback shares the same cabin features as its standard counterpart, including an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch central touchscreen, and an optional 10.9-inch display for the front passenger. However, the sloping roof reduces cargo space compared to the standard model.
Under the Hood
The Sportback version shares its powertrain and battery with the conventional Q6 e-tron, built on Volkswagen Group’s new PPE platform, which also underpins the Porsche Macan EV. The 94.4-kWh battery is expected to offer a similar EPA range of around 300 miles. The 800-volt system allows for rapid DC charging at up to 270 kW, with Audi claiming the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes.
The Sportback will exclusively feature all-wheel drive, while the standard Q6 e-tron will have a single-motor, rear-wheel drive option. The Sportback’s dual-motor setup delivers up to 456 horsepower and a top speed of 130 mph. Audi is also introducing a higher-performance SQ6 e-tron Sportback variant with two electric motors, generating 509 horsepower and reaching a top speed of 143 mph. Full performance details are expected to be revealed closer to the official launch.
Pricing and Availability
Sales for the Q6 and SQ6 e-tron Sportback models are expected to begin in the U.S. in spring or summer of next year, with further details to be announced in 2025. These Sportback models are anticipated to be priced slightly higher than their traditionally shaped versions. For comparison, the 2025 Q6 e-tron starts at $65,095, while the SQ6 e-tron starts at $74,195.
