The 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon-(Cars)
The Tokyo Auto Salon is the Japanese auto industry's largest showcase for its latest go-fast and show-off features. At the start of the year, scores of OEMs and aftermarket suppliers—along with legions of enthusiasts who worship at their altars—show up at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba City, converting the halls into a riot of vivid, intriguing, weird, and fascinating components. Like so many sensory encounters in Japan, it's all a little overpowering in the best way possible. Fortunately for you, we were on site for a few days to wobble around the aisles, logging nearly ten miles of steps and distilling it all for you. These were some of the more noticeable features.

The Koreans' sideways-getting modification crew turned up the heat with an onsite presentation of the ambitious RN24, piloted by none other than the Drift King himself, Keiichi Tsuchiya. This construct, based on the Ioniq 5 N, is intended to demonstrate the rowdy possibilities of a "lightweight" EV. It has a 13.4-inch wheelbase, no body panels, and an open-air cage. Nonetheless, it keeps all of the powerful electric cells from the performance EV's dual-motor configuration.
It still weighs more than two tons, but it's over 700 pounds less than its fully clad predecessor. It also keeps the N's loudmouth faux exhaust system.

Hyundai has another customized 5 N on hand, this time in a fully functional 1:1 size developed in partnership with the toy vehicle manufacturer Mini GT. It's a track car idea designed to showcase the tuning potential of performance EVs.
Aside from the massive front splitter, enormous rear wing, and air-sucking roof scoop, the most notable improvements are the swole front and back fenders, which allow for thick 12.0-inch-wide tires. This Monster N will also be available in the 1:64 scale.
